Ministry of Health Malaysia (KKM)

The Ministry of Health Malaysia (Kementerian Kesihatan Malaysia) is the federal government authority responsible for the planning, delivery and regulation of public health and healthcare services across Malaysia. It oversees a nationwide network of public hospitals, clinics, disease control and health promotion programs, and sets national health policy, standards and licensing. Its primary offerings include public healthcare provision, preventive and promotive health programs, epidemiological surveillance and regulation of pharmaceuticals and medical services, serving the Malaysian population as its principal customer base. Established at the founding of independent Malaysia in 1957 and headquartered in Putrajaya, the ministry functions as the central custodian of the country’s health system and is a major employer within the public sector. It occupies a leadership role in the national health sector, coordinating with state health departments, academic institutions, private providers and international organizations such as the World Health Organization. The ministry is distinguished by its management of national immunization and disease control programs and by its central role in pandemic response, vaccination deployment and recent digital health initiatives (including national health apps and electronic reporting systems). Funded through the federal budget rather than private investment, it continues to expand public health capacity, strengthen primary care access and engage in cross-sector partnerships to address communicable and non-communicable disease challenges.
